2019 TEDxOakparkwomen on 12/12:

Call for Submissions for the 5th Annual TEDxOakParkWomen:
BOLD + BRILLIANT - without apology!

What you need to be prepared to do:

  1. Download + complete the Microsoft Word or Fillable PDF Talk Submission Application. Email your application and supplemental materials to us at Talks@TEDxOakParkWomen.com on or before April 30, 2019. Remember our theme is BOLD + BRILLIANT. We are looking for topics that align with that theme. See below for inspiration on what a TEDx Talk could look like.

  2. Commit to memorizing your presentation + remember there is a time limit. We’ll be there to help you along the way - with frequent check-ins, rehearsals and even professional coaching referrals if you need it!

  3. In-person auditions on 6/8 + 6/9. Auditions will be five (5) minutes long - four minutes to present your idea and one minute of Q&A.

  4. 2019 Speakers will be selected by 6/12/19. Speakers will get a more detailed schedule, but key dates are outlined below.


What is a TEDx Talk?

The big idea: Talks that make one or two very strong points, and it’s important. Examples: Bryan StevensonOnora O'NeillChimamanda Ngozi Adichie

The tech demo: A look at some clever new invention the speaker was a part of creating. Examples: Tan LeMarkus FischerRaffaello D'Andrea

The performance: Music, dance, magic, or some other performance to captivate your audience. Examples: Usman Riaz + Preston ReedArthur BenjaminPilobolus

The artist’s statement: In these talks, artists showcase their art and explain the meaning and process behind what they create. Examples: Raghava KKLiu BolinAparna Rao

The “dazzle with wonder”: These talks are mainly about the amazement of science and discovery. Examples: Yoav Medan, Marcus ByrneJanna Levin

The small idea: Talks not about one big, world-changing idea, but instead a very engaging take on an interesting topic. Examples: Mary RoachJoe SmithCharlie Todd

The “issue” talk: These talks expose your audience to an issue that they may not otherwise know much about. Examples: Rodrigo CanalesLawrence LessigRose George

Key Dates:

  • 4/30/19: Submissions Due

  • 5/22/19: Shortlist Notified

  • 6/8 + 6/9: In-Person Auditions

  • 6/12: Final Speakers Notified

  • 6/22 + 6/23: Two-hour meeting with Content Committee

  • July-September: Periodic Check-ins

  • October-December: Rehearsals

  • 12/12/19: TEDxOPW EVENT!
